
Anita Kumar
Director of Public Health-Community Partnership
Anita joins us after nearly a decade at EBALDC, where she oversaw the strategic vision and direction of EBALDC’s Neighborhood Collaborations Department. Prior to becoming Director, Anita managed the Healthy Havenscourt Collaborative, a neighborhood collaborative focused on the the Havenscourt neighborhood in East Oakland. In this role, she served as the collaborative convener, supporting a network of 30+ partners across multiple sectors, working together to strengthen the health and well-being of Havenscourt residents’ health and well-being with a focus on place.
Anita has always viewed health through the lens of social justice. She has worked at Amnesty International USA, helping to launch the organization’s health and human rights campaign. Anita holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Before EBALDC, Anita worked in social impact consulting, providing evaluation and strategic planning services for government and non-profit agencies throughout the Bay Area.
